Our Plan

Views of the Mississippi River and the New Orleans skyline will provide an unparalleled backdrop for 40 single family homes and small local businesses. Embracing the safety and charm of Old Algiers Point, every home is custom designed to pay homage to historic New Orleans architecture and offer thoughtful modern amenities.

Quality and Character

Our homes bring value to their respective neighborhoods by incorporating custom designs, fine building methods, and hand-crafted architectural features.

Community Engagement

By welcoming community participation in the early phases of conceptual design, we are afforded the opportunity to braid our talents with the desires of the neighborhood.

Rosa Dunlap, Designer

Avery Cootes, Urban Planner

Every Bertel project begins with a comprehensive understanding and analysis of site context. We are committed to setting a high standard for sustainable, environmentally-aware urban design.

Michelle Duhon, Design Manager

Jake McGregor, Designer

We envision a neighborhood of individual homes that are architecturally appropriate and built to a superior construction standard. Every home features a one-of-a-kind floor plan and facade, and integrates hand-crafted historical features. Through conscious design, we can provide for the modern lifestyle and also carry forward the tradition of community in Algiers.

Jim Bertel, Classic Millworks Director

Classic Millworks is a full-fledged production facility operated by Mike's father, Jim Bertel. There is great emphasis placed on detail, and creating pieces that will endure for many generations to come.  Our craftsmen are experts at utilizing reclaimed materials and creating key features for our projects. This includes panel doors, windows, brackets, column details, hand-cut moldings, furniture and more.

Cody Stringer, Construction Manager

Through years of restoring and building in the historic districts of New Orleans, Bertel Construction has perfected the art of building a premium product. Homes built in Algiers will be constructed to our self-imposed high standards of method and materials. We go beyond developer-grade finishes to include custom cabinetry, reclaimed wood flooring, stone and natural surfaces, wood siding, and other reclaimed architectural elements.

Mike Bertel is a real estate developer, owner of Bertel Construction, Classic Millworks, and 2nd Ave Real Estate Co. Mike comes from a long line of New Orleans craftsmen and builders. His grandpa is a homebuilder and master woodworker, still making furniture at the age of 92. Mike's dad, Jim Bertel, is a master woodworker who runs Bertel Construction's 10,000 square foot custom millworks and cabinet shop. Mike grew up on a job site with his dad and learned the trades at a very young age before starting Bertel Construction 11 years ago. The design and build team at Bertel Construction has carried this proud tradition of quality craftsmanship forward to design and build New Orleans' finest homes.
